PARC Road Safety Group

PARC Road Safety Group is an Irish Non-Governmental Organization advocating for road safety and road traffic victims with charitable status number 17663. Founded in 2006 to provide emotional and practical support to those who have lost loved ones in road traffic collisions or who have themselves been injured in such crashes, PARC aims to protect and preserve human life on Irish roads and to prevent needless pain and suffering. We continue to highlight the need for individual responsibility and care on our roads and for the introduction of international best practice in road safety, through our educational initiatives.

PARC is presently producing a guide for victims of road traffic collisions which will provide families of the bereaved and injured with practical self-help advice in order to minimize their distress. We also plan to extend the listening service currently provided to road traffic victims to include the provision of a helpline. This will assist families of the bereaved and those who have been injured to find suitable professional assistance and support, thereby helping to alleviate their distress.

As an NGO advocating for road safety and road traffic victims, PARC will work with all stakeholders with a common aim to save lives and to build safer communities around the world and aims to expand activities presently conducted at National, Regional and Global level. As part of our plans for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020, we will launch our guide for road traffic victims, together with a new website. We will work towards setting up a National coalition against road trauma and a National memorial to road crash victims. We will also continue to organize a special ceremony on the 3rd Sunday of November each year to mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

PARC is a member of FEVR, the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims, which has UN consultative status, and is also a signatory to the European Road Safety Charter ERSC.

"On their way home they were dropped off at a bus stop. One of his friends had arranged for them to be picked up by his parents but that lift never transpired. Instead another person was sent to collect them. Aidan trusted that lift and that is something we will regret for the rest of our lives. Aidan never came home".
